For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people…
we wait for the blessed hope—
the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
Jesus Christ.
~Titus 2:11,13
Good morning dear Sister!
Believers hold a wide spectrum of perceptions when we think about who Jesus is. Do we see Him as the ‘little lord Jesus asleep on the hay’? The young man in subjection to His parents? Teacher? Rabbi? Suffering, dying servant? Risen from the dead? The victorious, conquering Hero?
Who is this Jesus? Of Himself He says “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Rev 1:8
Jesus lives outside of our perception of time. He is just as alive now as he was 2000 years ago and 2000 years from now as well!
He came to earth as a baby, but the prophetic word of Isaiah does not keep Him in Bethlehem’s manger.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing it and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7) That is definitely not baby talk!
As we move through history, let’s consider what Jesus said about Himself during His life on earth; “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
(Luke 19:10) These are the actions of a father saving a beloved child!
Jesus is the great shepherd who not only seeks His lost sheep, but also sets them on to the path of life! He declares, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6)
Jesus describes himself as a servant; “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mt 20:28) Jesus, Son of Man and Son of God modeled what servant ministry looks like. Serving through humility and unconditional love, to the point of giving His own life so those who believe in Him could live with Him forever!
He also taught that the thief, Satan, comes only to steal and kill and destroy; Jesus has come that we may have life, and have it to the full. (Jn 10:10) Jesus is revealing Himself to be someone beyond a mere human! In His holy name, we can defeat our spiritual enemies and by His power break down strongholds in our lives!
In the book of Revelation, Jesus, our risen Lord, commands His apostle John to write what he has seen in a vision of our present Jesus. A glimpse of Jesus as He was, as He is, and now how He will always be forever and ever! There is a lot of symbolism in the description below that may seem ancient to us, but is still relevant today.
John writes “And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw…… one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet”; the robe symbolizes authority.
“Girded across His breast with a golden girdle”; symbolizing priesthood.
“His head and His hair were white like wool, like snow”; symbolizing timelessness, wisdom & purity.
“His eyes were like a flame of fire”; symbolic of searching, penetrating judgment, refining fire and passion.
“His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been caused to glow in a furnace”; burnished bronze is a metal connected with judgement and sacrifice. Israel’s altar of sacrifice was made of such, which is a more durable form of brass. It is also an emblem of stability and permanence.
“His voice was like the sound of many waters”; think of the roar of Niagara Falls!
“In His right hand He held seven stars”; He holds the church securely in His hand.
“Out of His mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword”; the sword is His Word, the Word of God.
“His face was like the sun shining in its strength”; His glory is so great that it is impossible to even look upon His face! (Rev 1:12-16)
This is our Jesus! This is our Lord! His name is above ALL names, His power is over ALL things in heaven and earth and under the earth. He is the triumphant conqueror, who has come to set the captives free, our Savior and Redeemer!
Jesus Christ!
Please pray with me! Thank you Lord Jesus, for revealing who You are to us! Thank you for modeling ministry for us so that we may walk in a way that is pleasing to you. Please help us as we begin to understand who You are and grow to be more like You!
God bless you, my sister! May the glory of our Savior rise in your heart today!!
With love, your sister, Celeste
