Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
~Isaiah 30:21
Good morning dear sister!
Have you ever been caught up in wonder at your ability to hear God’s voice? In our natural lives, God has given a child in the womb the ability to hear the voices of their parents! How much more after being born of the Spirit should we be aware of our Abba speaking to us!
God speaks to us in many ways; through His Word, written or preached, in prayer and meditation. He speaks to us through nature and the glory of His creation. He sometimes speaks to us in a still, small voice that will lead us on a certain path.
All this week I have been thinking and praying about what to write to you. I tried to wait patiently before the Lord to hear an answer. That period was uncomfortable, especially as the days passed by and a deadline loomed!
Then, I finally heard that still, small voice, from the mouth of my husband! Don’t get me wrong, God chooses to speak through our brothers and sisters too! It’s not like I wasn’t expecting God to speak through him, but I marveled at the instant confirmation I sensed when I recognized God’s voice in the verse he read; “This is the way, walk in it…”. I had a path in mind, but God took me down another!
Scripture assures us that God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts, so it seems pretty safe to assume that His paths are not necessarily our paths either. In fact, the verse above indicates that God is always ready to redirect us when we begin to stray off His path.
This is a comforting thought because, with an imperfect sense of the way to go, sooner or later, we are likely to take a wrong step somewhere. Many of us cannot even follow the directions of a GPS, how much more attentively do we need to follow the directions of God?
With our GPS, we can set our destination and see the route to get there. But God’s path may not lead to where we think we are going! With our limited vision, our path may not even line up with His path!
So, what do we do? The first things you may think about are what is the destination God has in mind, and do you know how to get there? Those things are not as important to the path as walking with Him. God wants us to walk in step with Him, not lagging behind or running ahead of Him.
This is where listening for that voice in your ear comes in. God will direct you and correct you if you are willing to hear. We do this because God has far more for us than we can even think or imagine! We don’t just endure the journey to some destination, He is working into us whatever is His will as we walk with Him.
When you find yourself at a decision point, set aside some time to actively listen for the Lord’s voice. Avail yourself and your plans to be directed by His will. Wait in faith until you hear His answer and then trust that He will guide you along the way.
God bless you my sister as you grow in your ability to hear and dare to trust God more and more as He leads you in His path! He has great things in store for you!
Keep loving Jesus and moving forward!
With love, your sister, Celeste
