U-NEEK & Special Needs

Our Mission:

The purpose is to break down barriers that keep children with challenges/disabilities, Pre-K thru 12th grade, and their families from being able to participate in the community of the Church.

Our Goals:

*To show families of children with special needs that we believe that each child is a unique creation of God.

*To reach out to the community and provide a safe and loving environment where children with special needs can worship God and learn about Jesus.

*To nurture each child’s individual skills and abilities while learning about the Christian faith.

*To provide an opportunity for children with special needs to learn about God’s love in a way that is accessible to them.

Our Vision:

is to share across the aisle, the street, the world, around the corner and throughout the county of Monroe, the love of Christ. Your family matters to us. We strive to create a safe, welcoming and Christ-centered environment for everyone. If your family has a child with an emotional, cognitive or physical challenge, we are here to help!

Our aim:

is that the family will be comfortable attending worship service and an opportunity to build relationships without having to worry about the welfare of their children. While you attend service and get a chance to hear God’s plans for you, your child gets to do the same thing. In a cool, safe, age-appropriate environment they are having a blast, being creative and learning about God’s love.

Every children will know that:

  1. God Loves Them
  2. Jesus died for their sins
  3. The Holy Spirit can and will change them!

All of our teachers, buddies and point persons are Christ-centered, spirit filled members of this congregation. Each person before being allowed to work with any child goes through a background check. This eliminates any concern of abuse or neglect in regards to children. All persons are trained by the Special Needs Coordinator on a monthly

basis and guidelines are updated as deemed necessary.

A Teacher:

provides and carries out a lesson set forth.

A Buddy:

is usually a one-on-one person, to be used inside or outside of the classroom; escorting one to the bathroom, etc.

A Point Person:

is one of two persons who will be in the classroom at the beginning of every class to receive children into the classroom.

Remember to be kind especially to Children, their gifts are unconditional.

When a child gives you a gift, even if it is a rock they just picked up, exude gratitude. It might be the only thing they have to give and they have chosen to give it to you.

Also every child is Unique, no one is the same!

Class meets EVERY SUNDAY immediately following

Worship Service on the second floor in the “I Am U-Neek” classroom. The class room opens at 10:00am.

Monthly meetings are held for workers as well as parents. We meet every 2nd and 4th Sunday after service. This is a time of fellowship, training and sharing, reviewing goals and accomplishments, etc.

Our short to long term goal is to dedicate a room within our church for renovation using a Multi-Sensory Environment, which is a section of a room accessible for all, the elderly as well as those facing challenges/disabilities. We would like to be able to offer this facility to the community of Monroe County as a whole once established.

We have intake forms available for families who may be

interested in being serviced. Please inquire in the main office.

Note: all information provided is treated with confidentiality. Information will be shared for teaching or training purposes only by cleared personnel.

“After searching on the internet for a local church, that would be able to provide a safe and loving

environment for our special needs child, we came upon the name of Hope Christian Fellowship. We figured we would give it a try after not being able to comfortably visit and fellowship anywhere else. To date we have been blessed tremendously. We worship as a family, with our little one and

afterwards we escort him to his class . . .

I Am U-Neek.”

“Our daughter was practically born here at Hope Christian Fellowship. She has been an active

member and is now nineteen years old. As a part of the helping team in the special needs ministry, she continues to grow and grow and grow. Of

recent our daughter has become more independent,

helpful, caring and loving. She is currently helping with decorating the room and looks forward to meeting with her peers in her class . . .

I Am U-Neek.”

I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Marvelous are your works.

And that my soul knows very well.

Psalms 139:14

“There are no guarantees in life, except that

everyone faces struggles. This is how we learn and grow. Some face struggles from the moment they are born. They are the most special of all people, requiring the most care and compassion and

reminding us that love is the sole purpose of life.”

God is LOVE!
