Good morning married couples,

Let me start with a question. Answer it before you read the balance of this blog.

Here it is---What do you think would make your marriage successful or better than it is right now?

Don't say---if my spouse did things MY way.

Let me share a few thoughts with you for the next few weeks and see if they help out.

Barnett R. Bricker said of marriage the following---"Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate, but through being the right mate.

There are essentials in every marriage that cannot be avoided. If they are, that marriage will come tumbling down. We must put priority to the essentials and put other "STUFF" aside.

Here are some essentials. Why not score yourself from 1-10, on where you are at with your spouse. These are not automatic. If you don't exercise them, you don't have them.

1- Love /commitment:

At the very core, love is a decision to be committed to your spouse. It must be more than a feeling that often is portrayed in the movies.

Marriage is a decision to love in the UPS and DOWNS, the GOOD and BADS of life. If those decisions are not made upfront, you will run away at the first sign of difficulties. Love is displayed by remaining faithful to your commitment even through the trials of life.

2-Sexual Faithfulness:

Being faithful in the sexual realm of your marriage vows is more than the physical. It must include your eyes, mind, heart and soul. If any of those areas are on anything but your spouse, the enemy will be sure to cause opportunities to  come your way to fulfill that SIN.

Please guard your sexual appetites and direct them entirely to your spouse. Self-discipline is a must. Refuse to put anything in front of your eyes or heart, that would compromise your faithfulness to your spouse.

3- Humility:

Be confident with who you are, but stay humble. Be willing to be teachable. NO ONE likes to live with someone who thinks they know it all.

We have been talking about this area in our last 2 Sunday morning messages. God's Word tells us that Pride will destroy lives. Lucifer was casted down, King Nebuchadnezzar was like cattle in the fields for 7 years, Goliath was destroyed, and that list goes on and on.

Stay in humility and you won't, stumble, crumble or even fumble.

We will look at a few more next week.

Much love,

Pastor G
